Sailing Vessel "Family's Pride"

Introduction

The 'Family's Pride' is a unique sailing vessel - a 52 foot gaff-rigged ketch, which was, originally, a Scottish fishing vessel. She has been extensively converted into a 12 berth motor-sailor and meets full Department of Transport compliance standards.

'Family's Pride' is operated by Carolina House Trust, the oldest Scottish Child Care Charity, based in Dundee. The vessel is primarily intended to be sailed with young people but it is also available for group or individual charter, including for example, Team Building Exercise, Corporate hospitality etc. The Trust is a non-profit making organisation and every time you sail, you will help to fund the cost of providing a unique sailing adventure for a young person.

Sailing with Young People

It can be very hard work but it is also exciting, exhilarating and extremely good fun. Family's Pride is operated by Carolina House Trust, drawing upon community support. The ethos of the project is to bring together supportive adults to work as a team with young people. Each individual (even those seen negatively by society) will make a positive contribution to others in the team.

Teamwork will enhance self esteem, develop individual responsibility and change attitudes. This, in turn, will encourage greater involvement in wider aspects of the projects, for example, boat maintenance, training and support groups. The benefits of this unique experience will then transfer to the community through improved responsibility and social awareness of the young people living them .
