Haemostatic clips are used for occluding tubular structures ie. Blood vesses, ducts. They are used in situations where normal ligatures would be difficult to insert ie laparoscopic surgery.

Their radio-opaque nature is utilised for radiotherapy.

Ligature-Cutting devices, where two clips are placed on a vessel or other tubular structure, and subsequently cut across between the two. These are used in mesenteric or omental surgery.
